Little Octopus
Free pattern · Easy · US terms · counts verified · Updated 2 October 2026
A round body and eight curly legs — the classic first toy, and the curl happens by itself. Abbreviations are US terms — see the stitch guide for any you don't know. Every round's stitch count below is machine-verified.
The legs are the trick worth learning here: three single crochet into every chain packs so many stitches onto the strip that it corkscrews on its own the moment you let go. No blocking, no wire — the curl is pure geometry.
If the toy is for a baby, embroider the eyes with yarn instead of using safety eyes.
