Easter Egg

Free pattern · Beginner · US terms · counts verified · Updated 2 October 2026 Two crocheted eggs: a yellow one embroidered with a green sprig and a red bud, and a beige one with green, blue and red stripes
Hook 3.0 mm Yarn DK cotton or acrylic · fibrefill · scraps of other colours for decorating Level Beginner Size about 7 cm tall

A stuffed egg worked from the pointed tip down — twenty rounds, and a blank canvas to decorate however you like. Abbreviations are US terms — see the stitch guide for any you don't know. Every round's stitch count below is machine-verified.

An egg is a ball that takes its time. The first rounds add only three stitches each, which draws out the pointed tip; the rest widens, runs straight for five rounds, and closes at the broad end exactly as the amigurumi ball does. If you can make the ball, you can make this.

The decorating is yours. Work it in one colour and embroider a sprig, flowers or dots once it is stuffed. Change colour every round or two for stripes. Or leave it plain in a yarn you love. No two need to match — a bowl of them in different colours is rather the point.

  1. Rnd 16 sc in magic ringThis is the pointed tip. Work in a spiral without joining, and keep a marker in the first stitch of each round.6
  2. Rnd 2inc x 612
  3. Rnd 3(3 sc, inc) x 3Only three increases a round here. That slow start is what draws the tip out into a point instead of a dome.15
  4. Rnd 4(4 sc, inc) x 318
  5. Rnd 5sc, inc, (2 sc, inc) x 5, scThe increases sit between those of the round below, so they never line up into corners.24

  8. Rnd 8sc around30
  9. Rnd 92 sc, inc, (4 sc, inc) x 5, 2 scThe next five rounds are the widest part of the egg, and the best place for stripes: change colour on the last pull-through of a round.36

  14. Rnd 18sc, dec, (2 sc, dec) x 5, sc18
  15. Rnd 19(sc, dec) x 6Add the last of the stuffing before the opening gets too small.12

Finishing

  1. •Fasten off with a 15 cm tail, thread it through the front loops of the last 6 stitches, pull tight to close and hide the end inside the egg
  2. •Decorate it however you like: embroider a sprig, flowers or dots, tie on a ribbon, or leave it plain
