Amigurumi Ball

The first shape every amigurumi maker learns — a plain stuffed sphere in single crochet, increases and decreases. Abbreviations are US terms — see the stitch guide for any you don't know. Every round's stitch count below is machine-verified.
Every amigurumi body, head and limb is a variation on this ball. It teaches the magic ring, working in a spiral, the six-increase round, and the invisible-ish decrease — the four skills that unlock almost every toy pattern ever written.
Use a hook a size or two smaller than the yarn band suggests, so the stuffing doesn't show through. A stitch marker in the first stitch of each round saves a lot of counting.
